Jalane Schmidt, associate professor of religious studies at the University of Virginia and author of “Cachita’s Streets: The Virgin of Charity, Race, and Revolution in Cuba” (Duke University Press, 2015), will talk about how devotion to Cuba's patron saint, the Virgin of Charity, has been central to how many Cubans of various racial and religious identities have navigated the Revolutionary to contemporary eras.
