Faith a connection for young urban singles in Jordan

In a country where family, including extended family, provide the primary networks of association, there are relatively few lay Catholic associations in Jordan. Perhaps as a result of their experience as urban singles, young adults in Amman have organized a youth group centered at St. George’s Cathedral in Amman and meet at least once a week for meals and fellowship, usually at the archbishop’s residence. The group draws from and connects the Catholic churches of the city. Most members are Melkite, but many of those have been educated in Latin church-sponsored schools. The focus of the group has been on retreats and spiritual development, along with religious education and community building.
