Jamaica's lay organizations are parish-sponsored

  • Sale in the parish hall before mass, Holy Cross Church, Kingston.

The organization of lay Catholic life in Jamaica is primarily parish centered. Parishes sponsor an array of youth groups; altar servers; men’s groups; the Legion of Mary; St. Vincent de Paul, which cares for the poor; and Bible study groups.  The diocese finds ways to bring Catholics together, and there are notable lay Catholic organizations like Food for the Poor. At the same time, Catholics interviewed indicated that there are no significant lay Catholic organizations with national membership.
